What better way to launch my new blog than to share my word of the year with you all.
There’s no denying it, 2021 was an incredible year. An incredible year both professionally and personally. I grew my business in more ways than I could have imagined whilst renovating our family home.
2021 was a year of growth, development, learning and in many ways the year I learnt to say no. Since reflecting back on the previous year, I didn’t realise just how manic 2021 truly was. I’m sure many of you can relate, especially small based business, whilst running a business is amazing it comes with a few challenges along the way.
I’d never felt ‘busier’, the business was chaotic and it felt as though I wasn’t getting anywhere. I was working hard, really hard, and my business was seeing amazing results but I felt stuck. I felt I was being pulled from pillar to post and I knew something had to change.
Time For Change
By June I was exhausted. I was awake most mornings by 6:30am heading straight to the office and working nearly 12/14 hours in my business every day. I was working in my business every single day, and there was no time left to work on my business. My business had taken over my life and it became clear it was affecting all aspects of my life, including my home life and mental health. Enough was enough, it was time for change.
During the Summer months, I spent a significant amount of time working on the long-term strategy of my business. After a lot of consideration, I made a huge decision in my business. I decided to reduce my services and focus only on a key number of VA services. This decision was monumental and financially I kept questioning if this was the right decision.
By taking the time to work on my business instead of in my business, this helped me understand and become clear about what’s really important to me in my business and on a personal level. It’s important to take time to reflect, and allocate time for growth to become more invested and successful. Someone once said to me “your personal development journey is the root of your growth as a business owner”, and right now I couldn’t agree more with this.
I’ve learnt a lot of lessons throughout 2021 and I learnt to say no. I feel so proud of my personal development and can’t wait to see where my VA business will be in 5-years’ time. I’m excited for the future and excited to start building upon the foundations.
Word Of The Year
I’ve decided every year to set one word for the year ahead. My word for 2022 is grounded. 2022 is the year to focus and feel grounded, I want to feel my feet firmly grounded on the floor! We all know how important work-life-balance is. But, it’s easy to get caught up and for time to run away with us.
Most importantly I’m proud of the work-life-balance I’m creating. I want to focus on my beautiful family all whilst creating a good and healthy work life. I feel focused, I feel refreshed and I want to create a sense of calm and peace for my clients. I feel as though my feet are firmly grounded on the floor.
As well as setting a word of the year I’ve made myself a personal development goal of reading 10 books throughout 2022. I’m currently at the end of reading White Teeth by Zadie Smith. Next up is The Art of the Good Life by Rolf Dobelli. I love setting personal development goals and would encourage all your readers to do the same.
